Rob Louie, DiplPSM, BA, LLB and LLM (candidate)

Rob Louie is the founder, CEO and President of the Band Members Alliance and Advocacy Association of Canada (BMAAAC – pronounced “bee mack”). His vision set the stage for BMAAAC, and he used his own money to start up BMAAAC. Rob Louie is the nephew of the late Wayne Louie; he was the litigation strategist in Louie v. Louie.

Rob Louie is from the Ktunaxa (Kootenay) First Nation in British Columbia. He is the first from his Band to attend university. Rob Louie holds a diploma in public sector management (University of Victoria), a political science degree (University of Victoria), and a law degree (University of British Columbia). He also articled and worked at the King George Law Group in Surrey, BC. He is a 2020 recipient of the Chief Joe Mathias Award to add to his many achievements and victories. With over 20 years of experience in the Indigenous sector, he is a seasoned professional. However, Rob Louie also experienced personal challenges, including substance abuse. But, Rob Louie recovered in spectacular fashion. He now openly shares his experience, strength and hope with those that face similar challenges in their personal life.

With the help from lawyers in BC and Alberta, as well as from the BC Lawyers Assistance Program, Alcoholics Anonymous and the Kílala Lelum Health Centre in Vancouver, BC, Rob Louie is an active member in the Indigenous community, the legal community and the recovery community. He is currently a member in good standing with the Canadian Bar Association, the Trial Lawyers Association of BC, the Indigenous Bar Association and the BC Civil Liberties Association.

He is now working towards earning a masters in law degree specializing in constitutional law (York University), and he is on track to being readmitted to the Law Society of BC in 2021 to practice law. In July 2021, Rob Louie will be a global speaker at the International Society for Reform of Criminal Law Conference.

Rob Louie has shown courage and honesty and compassion, and in doing so, he has credibility and trust and strength that allows him to advocate on behalf of Band members in Canada – with success.
