In some places in Canada, there are native Band Councils that engage in self-serving practices. These kinds of Band Councils also behave in a way that show favouritism and nepotism with housing, employment, health, education and other broader areas of concern. Any Band member that dares speak out risks facing retribution. No government can hold Chiefs and Band Councils in Canada accountable. There is no ombudsperson that oversees or investigates Chiefs and Band Councils in Canada, either. Indigenous people in Canada deserve good governance.
Now you can do your part to help put a stop to native Band Council misfeasance and be part of the solution.
The Band Members Alliance and Advocacy Association of Canada (BMAAAC – pronounced “bee mack”) was incorporated and registered as an autonomous, non-partisan, federal non-profit society on February 22, 2019 (Canada Corporations Registration No. 1125273-9). Insurance coverage for BMAAAC is provided by Leibel Insurance Alberta. It is the only national organization dedicated to assisting Band members that demand good governance and financial accountability from their elected Chief and Council.
We are funded by Canadians like you that care about putting an end to native Band Council misfeasance and financial scandals, and help Band members get access to justice to hold their elected representatives accountable. We also seek donations from the corporate community that have a sense of corporate responsibility to Indigenous people.
We are not affiliated with any Band Council and we are not connected in any way to the Assembly of First Nations (AFN). Our independence and strength come from Indigenous and Canadians alike, from coast-to-coast, that believe in BMAAAC’s mandate.
